“How many stories can one language hold?”

From the day we start speaking, we take our language for granted, it’s part of who we are and how others see us.

This is why, if you want to destroy a culture, the first thing you should do is outlaw their language… identity, eventually will follow. This film is the stori of how a girl returns to her roots to reclaim the language that was stolen from her.

My Name Is Anik, Polifilm’s first production with Scottish Documentary Institute as part of the Bridging the Gap scheme for emerging talent was directed by Bircan Birol and will be premiering at Edinburgh International Film Festival:
